First elected to represent House District 17 in 2007, Jones opted not to seek re-election. Among the candidates who are vying to succeed Jones are two former educators, a West Monroe business owner and an attorney.
Retired educator and former Monroe City Schools administrator Dr. Billye Burns touts her experience as a career educator among her qualifications for office.
Burns said she would focus on improving education statewide as a tool for economic development. ....
