Flag of My Father premiered on April 16 in celebration of Ouachita Parish's first feature film. Now, filmmaker Rodney Ray is hosting a similar screening for a more personal reason.
He is honoring his WWII veteran father, Asa M. Ray, Jr., at First Baptist Church-Monroe at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20.
"My dad is my hero. Honoring him is going to be one of the most special moments of my life," Ray said.
The film is loosely based upon Rodney's relationship with his dad. Like Flag's main characters, they share a special bond due to both serving in the military — Rodney in the Navy and Asa in the Army.
