Five West Monroe football players will take their game to the next level next year and two have decided on attending LSU.

The players were part of the West Monroe defense which led the Rebels to a District 1-5A title and a first-round win. The Rebels finished the season with a 10-1 record.

Luther Davis 6-4, 282 lbs. and Will Blackwell, 6-4, 285 lbs. defensive linemen, have announced their intentions of going to LSU.

Shomari Clemons, a defensive standout who finished his eligibility in 2005 but was academically ineligible in 2006, will also play at LSU this fall.

Two other players from West Monroe are already down there including Luke Sanders and Mark Snyder.

Sanders played this past season and Snyder was a redshirt freshman.
Both Blackwell and Davis have made verbal committments to attend LSU. National Signing Day is Feb. 7.

Outstanding linebacker C. C. Carpenter, 6-0, 230 lbs. has committed to the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Coach Don Shows didn't know about defensive linebacker Terry Carter at this time, but said Carter was leaning toward Louisiana Tech. Carter is 5-11, 166 lb.

"That just goes to prove all of our best players are on defense," said West Monroe coach Don Shows. "This is the second time since I've been here we've had five players at LSU. I'm real excited about it. (Les) Miles is a great coach. Its a great time for LSU football."

Ouachita Parish coach John Carr said several players on his team have been contacted by various schools, but no one has made a verbal commitment at this time. One of the players is standout quarterback Josh Strong.
