Longboarders make short stop in WM posted Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 @ 10:20 am The West Monroe Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Louisiana will host three young men who are long boarding across America to raise money for their boys and girls club.
The event will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the boys and girls club in West Monroe, located at 500 Evergreen St. The public is invited to attend.
A longboard is a type of skateboard that is often used for downhill racing. It is typically referred to as "surfing on concrete."
Ben Warner, Ryan Donahue and Jerry Craker are longboarding more than 2,500 miles and visiting boys and girls clubs to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club of South Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound benefits 13,150 children and teens of eight branches and 14 outreach sites in Pierce, Mason and Kitsap counties.
Warner considers increasing public awareness about boys and girls clubs to be the most important message of his trip.
He hopes his efforts will impact people along the way and encourage them to give back to their community.
