Court 'restrains' Greater Ouachita

A 4th Judicial District Court judge issued a restraining order last week, prohibiting Greater Ouachita Water Co. from denying developers in Sterlington access to water for not donating water lines to the company.

The town of Sterlington sought relief in District Court, claiming Greater Ouachita Water Co. was in violation of a franchise agreement between the town and the company that expires in 2016.

Judge Robert Johnson ruled Tuesday the restraining order would remain in place until an injunction hearing is held.

According to the petition seeking the restraining order, the town insisted the franchise agreement does not require the water company to own the water lines it supplies, maintains or services.
