ORAG features Heard in March

The River Gallery is featuring the art of Debra Snyder Heard for the month of March.
Heard, a Monroe native for 30 years, works in both pencil and oil painting. Her pencils are beautifully detailed in a realistic style and most of the work she does is commission pieces.
One of Heard's favorite art memories was when she was in high school. Her father had just had the whole house painted. He told Debra and her sisters that they could put anything they wanted on the walls, but that did not include nails, tape, tacks, or pins. That night her parents went out to a New Year's Eve party. Debra painted a huge oil painting on her bedroom wall. Her sisters just knew that she was going to get into a lot of trouble. When her father saw it he was shocked, but he couldn't get angry at Debra because she followed his rules. The neighbors started giving Debra commissions to paint and do artwork for them after they saw her work.
