WM educator named 'outstanding civics teacher' by Sunny Meriwether - posted Thursday, February 28th, 2013 @ 12:00 pm A teacher from Ouachita Parish recently was honored with the President's Award for Outstanding Civics Teacher presented annually by the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education.
Mitzi Murray, who has a law degree, teaches civics and law studies at West Monroe High School. She was recognized with the president's award for promoting the practical understanding of, and respect for, the law in the classroom.
Murray came to teaching somewhat late. She said it was her second profession.
"I went to ULM and graduated in pre-law, and went to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law and got my law degree," she said. "I got my law degree and practiced there, but within five or six years, I was back in Louisiana. " .....
