After a brief meeting in executive session Tuesday night, the Sterlington Board of Aldermen gave Mayor Vern Breland the go-ahead to pursue litigation against Greater Ouachita Water Co. over a dispute involving a housing development.
Breland declined to discuss the particulars of the dispute.
"Since it deals with possible litigation, I'm not going make any comment at this time," Breland said.
However, the Board of Aldermen unanimously approved introduction of an ordinance to amend the town's water ordinance. Adopted in June 1987, the town's water ordinance requires water lines and fire plugs for developments within Sterlington's corporate limits.
The proposed amended ordinance reads says, "No newly developed subdivision, residential property, or commercial development shall be required to donate or transfer ownership free of charge any water lines to any private entity.
