Council balks at water line for industrial park by Johnny Gunter - posted Thursday, January 24th, 2013 @ 12:00 pm The Monroe City Council voted 3-2 Tuesday night against running a water line to Charleston Industrial Park south of Monroe.
Industrial park owner Kenny Anderson left the meeting disillusioned by the vote that also would have allowed the city of Monroe to annex the property located just south of Richwood.
However, Anderson said he got a call after the meeting from city attorney Nanci Summersgill telling him things had been worked out and the council would likely pass the resolution at a special called meeting later this week.
Voting against the resolution were City Council Chairman Eddie Clark and councilmen Betty Blakes and Kenneth Wilson. Councilmen Ray Armstrong and Gretchen Ezernack voted to spend the $82,000 to $86,000 for the 12-inch water line. It would furnish water to the industrial park's first business, Southeastern Freight Lines, which says it will hire 25 to 30 people. .....
