University of Louisiana-Monroe officials addressed increased concerns for student safety on campus during a press conference on Tuesday.

Concerns arose after an un-named student was reportedly abducted from the ULM campus outside of Hemphill Hall on the morning of Jan. 18.

The student was allegedly taken off-campus and assaulted before being returned to campus and taken to a local hospital.

"Safety is a top priority on this campus, and university officials are taking this incident very seriously," said Dr. Wayne Brumfield, vice president of Student Affairs. "We are asking our faculty, staff and students to remain vigilant of their surroundings."
