The Monroe City School Board considered avenues to increase school safety in light of acts of violence elsewhere in the country as well as recent bouts of severe weather.
Derenda Flowers, interim school superintendent, updated the School Board on a developing collaboration among area schools and the Monroe Police Department.
The collaboration would entail police officers getting more involved in training school faculty and staff to be more prepared in the case of any event.
Flowers said the police department had already increased daily patrols around school campuses.
