Annual Stricklin Emerging Artists Competition set for Saturday

The 2013 Marjorie Stricklin Emerging Artists Competition will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, at Biedenharn Recital Hall on the University of Louisiana-Monroe campus.

Music lovers are encouraged to attend the Final Round at 7:30 p.m., when the cream of the crop of Louisiana's young musicians showcasing their high level of artistry and musicianship. Those participating compete in one of two age groups: Youth — 12 years through high school graduation, or Young Adult — college freshman through age 30. There are four performance categories: Piano; Strings; Vocal; or Winds, Brass, and Percussion.

From these performers overall competition winners will be chosen and will receive a cash award. One of those may also be selected to perform their entire composition with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra during the next concert season. Tickets are available at the door for $5.00. Preliminary Rounds before a panel of experts begin at 10:30 AM Saturday morning. They are free and open to the public.

The competition is a program of the Monroe Symphony League in cooperation with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra. Facilitator for the event is Dr. Mel Mobley, Professor of Theory and Percussion at ULM.
