Monroe to consider revoking sewer rates
by Michael DeVault - posted Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 @ 10:26 am

The Monroe City Council will consider revoking a recent sewer rate increase, according to the published agenda for the first regular City Council meeting of 2013.

The City Council will entertain the introduction of an ordinance to roll back sewer fees to previous levels at the next regular meeting Tuesday, Jan. 8.

Sewer rates in the city of Monroe were increased some 55 percent last year, after a consultant hired to examine the city's sewer charges suggested the increase.

Also, a controversial measure included in the ordinance approved in November instituted automatic rate hikes each year, indexed to the national Consumer Price Index for sewer rates.
