Tree Art Contest winners to be announced posted Thursday, December 6th, 2012 @ 12:00 pm Students from 10 schools in Ouachita Parish created 13 trees in this year's Tree Art Contest. This year's trees showed various interpretations of the theme, "Home for Holidays," including military trees, trees by the fireplace, a doorstep and more.
"This year, the teachers and students decorated live trees using ornaments they created," said Dianna Poindexter with the Monroe-West Monroe Convention & Visitors Bureau and coordinator of the contest.
Members of the art community judged the trees based on a number of criteria including overall depiction and cohesion of theme, visual appeal, and artistic ability.
Prizes will be awarded tonight including a Grand Prize and First through Fourth Prizes. A People's Choice Award will also be presented to the school whose tree receives the most votes at the presentation tonight between 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Votes are $1 each, and proceeds raised will be given to the school with the most People's Choice votes.
