Dirt roads irk Calhoun
by Michael DeVault - posted Thursday, December 6th, 2012 @ 12:00 pm

Some rural residents in Ouachita Parish could begin to see work on gravel roads next year thanks to the efforts of Police Juror Mack Calhoun.

Calhoun pressed the Police Jury Monday to pledge some $100,000 in its 2013 budget to fund conversion of dirt and gravel roads to paved surfaces.

Calhoun acted on the matter during a Police Jury Finance Committee meeting.
"Next year, I'll be asking for more," Calhoun said.

Calhoun pointed out that, in previous years, the Police Jury spent upwards of $200,000 a year to convert gravel and dirt roads to paved surfaces.
