When Ouachita Parish Tax Assessor Rich Bailey went to work at the Assessor's Office, much of the work was still performed by hand.
Bailey oversaw the department's first transition to computer-based office systems and when he leaves for the last time on Jan. 1, a big part of his legacy will come via the technology he introduced.
Bailey was the keynote speaker Monday at the regular meeting of the Ouachita Parish Women's Republican Club, where he was honored for his more than 39 years of service to the parish.
"At the time I went to work in 1974, there were 18 full-time employees in the Assessor's Office," Bailey said. "Today, there are 22."
