LSU falls to Chick-fil-A Bowl; Tigers to face Clemson posted Monday, December 3rd, 2012 @ 12:04 am BATON ROUGE - LSU is headed for the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta as the seventh-ranked Tigers will face 13th-ranked Clemson from the ACC, the bowl announced on Sunday.
Kickoff for the 45th annual Chick-fil-A Bowl is set for 6:30 p.m. CT from the Georgia Dome on Dec. 31. The game will be televised by ESPN.
"Atlanta is a great city and the Georgia Dome is a tremendous venue," LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva said. "Clemson is a quality opponent that is highly-ranked. This will be a great bowl game matchup featuring two very good football teams."
LSU will be making its sixth appearance in the Chick-fil-A Bowl and the first since a 38-3 win over Georgia Tech in 2008. LSU is 5-0 all-time in its previous Chick-fil-A Bowl appearances, which includes a 31-27 win over Florida State in 1968, a 10-7 win over Clemson in 1997, a 28-14 win over Georgia Tech in 2000 and a 40-3 victory over Miami in 2005.
"Clemson is obviously a very talented team," LSU coach Les Miles said. "Dabo Swinney has done a great job there and we look forward to a great matchup and a competitive game in the Chick-fil-a bowl between two very talented teams.
"We enjoy playing in Atlanta. It's a great city that has been very good to LSU. I'm sure that we'll travel extremely well. The Georgia Dome is an outstanding venue and we are excited about the opportunity to play in the Chick-fil-a bowl."
LSU has played Clemson just twice in football, both coming in bowl games. LSU beat Clemson, 7-0, in the 1959 Sugar Bowl and then again in the 1996 Chick-fil-A Bowl.
LSU will be making its 44th bowl appearance and the Tigers are 22-20-1 all-time in bowl games. The 22 wins ranks ninth nationally, while the 44 bowl appearances rank as the eighth-most in college football.
LSU will take the next two weeks to focus on academics before returning to practice on Monday, Dec. 17.
