Rebels battle Buccaneers in 5A semi-finals

The pressure is on as No. 3 West Monroe Rebels make their way to Lake Charles to face off against No. 2 Barbe Buccaneers on Friday in the fourth round of Class 5A playoffs.

Defending 5A state champion Rebels claimed a ticket to the semi-finals with a 34-14 win against No. 6 Airline Vikings last week, upgrading their season record to 12-2.

Barbe hosts the visiting Rebels after a 45-35 win over No. 7 Parkway. Barbe started out playoffs with a 24-7 win over No. 31 Terrebonne followed by a 38-21 victory over No. 1 C.E. Byrd during regionals.

"I'm nervous," said West Monroe Rebels Defensive Coordinator Jerry Alredge. "It's sudden death now. We either win or go home and Barbe is an outstanding football team, executing well on both sides of the ball."
