Sterlington juggles deficit, anticipates surplus

The Town of Sterlington apparently will close out the 2012 fiscal year with a deficit, but Mayor Vern Breland said the proposed town's proposed budget for 2013 budget would generate a surplus.

At its regular meeting last week, the Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to introduce the 2013 budget, as well as adopt amendments to this year's budget. The final vote on both will come before the Board of Aldermen at its Dec. 11 meeting.

The Dec. 11 meeting will be the final meeting of the year for the board.
"This year's budget, we've actually run a deficit," Breland said. "About $27,000 is the best guess we can come up with. So unless something drastically changes, we'll have a deficit for 2012. For 2013, we're projecting a surplus of about $26,000."
