Wood creates win-win for vineyard, local artisans

Sometimes one spark is enough to start a fire. Sometimes one step leads to another. Sometimes one business forms the nucleus of a community.

That's how Jeff Landry sees what's happening around the vineyard his family moved to western Ouachita Parish after Hurricane Katrina.

"Enriching the lives of others through local products. That's what we're trying to do and what we want to promote," Landry said. "There's so many things we can do as a community, a local community, thing we can do to enhance life locally. Taking unrefined products and refining them, things that would otherwise go to waste and capitalizing on them. Entrepreneurship, create new things that people will appreciate."

Specifically, Landry was talking about wood. To plant the vineyard, he had to cut down some trees, mainly red oak and hickory. So why let that wood go to waste?
That's where Clark Murphrey and Chuck Benson came in.
