Construction is under way on a federally mandated crosswalk that should provide pedestrians with safe passage across a busy West Monroe intersection.
The West Monroe Board of Aldermen approved funding Tuesday night to build a crosswalk across the Lea Joyner Bridge between K-Sera, on the north side of Mill Street and Antique Alley to the south.
Aldermen acted on the matter during their regular meeting.
"The Federal Highway Administration required a protected crosswalk at the foot of the Louisville Bridge," said West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris. "It will be very helpful for pedestrians crossing and will be handicap-accessible."
