A joint legislative committee will meet again Friday to decide the fate of a contract that allows a private insurance company to manage claims for the state Office of Group Benefits.

The House Appropriations Committee and the Senate Finance Committee will hold a joint committee meeting beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the capitol in Baton Rouge.

The contract the committee will consider would allow Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana to mange PPO claims filed by state employees who buy health insurance through their employment with the state. The contract also would affect retired state employees who utilize the state health insurance plan.

Friday's meeting will mark the second time this month that a joint committee meeting of House Appropriations and Senate Finance entertains the contract, which has the backing of the Jindal administration.
