Alexander gets sixth term

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney may have carried Louisiana and earned the state's eight electoral votes, but victory in the Bayou State was not enough to overcome a resurgent re-election effort by President Barack Obama.

Obama handily dispatched Romney, carrying both the Electoral College and the national popular vote to win a second term.

Following the election, Gov. Bobby Jindal weighed in.

"I want to congratulate President Obama on running and winning a hard-fought campaign," Jindal said. "I also want to congratulate Governor Romney. The Governor ran a strong race and he and his team should be proud of the effort they waged."
