Parish school officials expect bigger 13th check

Ouachita Parish school system employees can look forward to a slightly larger 13th paycheck at the end of this academic year.
School system officials project an increase because of modest growth in enrollment as well as in sales tax revenues.
Ouachita Parish Schools Superintendent Bob Webber said he and the school system's business manager Juanita Duke met earlier this week with interim Monroe City Schools Superintendent Derenda Flowers. They got together to determine how to split revenues from a shared half-cent sales tax voters passed in 1968.
Both Monroe City Schools and Ouachita Parish Schools use most of the revenues from the half-cent tax for salaries for teachers and support staff.
