Hunting creates many great memories by Robert Charles Payne - posted Thursday, October 25th, 2012 @ 12:00 pm I was introduced to deer hunting at a very young age. My father was from the school of getting into the woods hours before daylight to allow the scent to weaken. It always seemed that it took hours and hours before daylight arrived.
When Daddy dropped me off at my stand, which was on the ground back then, I would clear out the leaves by a tree, and sit down. If we had a stump or a tree that had fallen, then we were lucky enough to sit above the ground.
Now you must understand that I had a gun, but it did not lessen my fear of all those buggers that I heard before daylight. Back in the forties and fifties before bean fields cleared the big woods; there were bears, panthers, wildcats, and other animals that only my imagination could create. .....
