A new policy on employee lay-offs is set to top the agenda for the Ouachita Parish School Board on Thursday evening.
The State Department of Education had set a deadline of Oct. 1 to submit a Reduction-in-Force (RIF) policy, but board members wanted more time to study the proposal and weren't even sure whether they were legally bound to submit a policy.
Personnel Director Don Coker said he and Board Attorney Elmer Noah have been studying several proposals.
One of those policies was developed by Forethought, a Baton Rouge-based firm which has contracted with most of the state's school districts to recommend policies. Another came from the Louisiana Association of Educators.
