Sparta usage poses threat

Water usage throughout northern Louisiana will have to decrease roughly 20 percent or residents and businesses in the region will face an ecological disaster.
That was the assessment provided Tuesday by Sparta Commission education coordinator Lindsay Gouedy. Gouedy delivered that message to a meeting of the West Monroe Kiwanis Club.
"We're looking at 70 years of water being pulled out faster than it can be put back in," Gouedy said.
It's a situation that endangers one of the nation's most valuable sources of groundwater, according to Gouedy.
