Corrective action has been taken to ensure that there is no contamination in the system. This is not an emergency. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately. Total coliform bacteria are generally not harmful themselves. Coliforms are bacteria that are naturally present in the environment and are used as an indicator that other, potentially harmful bacteria may be present. Coliforms were found in more samples than allowed and this was a warning of potential problems. Usually, coliforms are a sign that there could be a problem with the treatment or distribution system (pipes). Whenever we detect coliform bacteria in any sample, we do immediate, extensive follow-up testing of the particular sight, as well as upstream, downstream and every source well to see if other bacteria of greater concern, such as fecal coliform or E. coli are present. We did not find any of these bacteria in our subsequent samples. If we had, we would have notified you immediately. Because all subsequent samples were negative and there was no major line break or loss of pressure, we believe that the source of contamination occurred as a result of outside contamination on the sample tap itself or the sample container and no further corrective action was necessary. You do not need to boil your water or take other corrective actions. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor. People with severely compromised immune systems, infants and some elderly may be at increased risk. These people should seek advice from their health care providers. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection from microbes are available from EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791. We would like to assure you that City is dedicated to providing our customers with a safe and dependable source of water. For more information, you may contact the City’s Environmental Quality Manager at 325-0496. 10/25 ________________________________________________ NOTICE The Living Well Foundation is seeking an individual of the highest integrity as Chief Executive Officer.
