Like many of the professional fire departments across the state, the Ouachita Parish Fire Department (“OPFD”) is subject to the Consent Decree issued on December 8, 1980 in United States v. City of Alexandria, etal., No. 77-2040 (E.D. La. 1977). That Consent Decree addresses the hiring of minorities and women by municipal and parochial fire departments. In coming weeks the United States Department of Justice (“U.S. DOJ”) will hold meetings with fire departments around the state to review the compliance with the Consent Decree.
