District needs experience posted Thursday, October 20th, 2011 @ 12:00 pm  E-mail Story |  Print Story  Editor: I have read in the last couple of weeks letters addressed to the editors of certain news publications which purported to cast aspersions at Jay Morris and the jobs that he has created in our community. Relatively typical of a negative campaign, these particular letters raised my ilk since I proudly held a "Jay job" for just shy of a decade, leaving only after the opportunity to practice with my father presented itself. Let me tell you about my experience. Over that decade, I lost a mother, had three children, had some major victories and made many mistakes. One thing that was constant throughout was Jay Morris, his open door and his words of wisdom and encouragement. He taught me about hard work and diligence, and when I made mistakes, he was both firm and supportive. I can tell you from actual experience that Jay Morris has the best business mind of any lawyer or non-lawyer I have ever been around, and the temperament and patience that thrives in a business setting. He is a leader. I have read negative letters from persons claiming to have insight as to Jay's businesses. Oddly, I practiced with Jay for 10 years, knew virtually everybody that he dealt with on the business side, and I've never seen nor heard of these persons. The public is not stupid. Letters to the Editor are often campaign tools used to try and sway public opinion. They are often full of spin and half truths, and rhetoric planted by campaign managers. When one resorts to negative campaigning, these letters tend to focus on the opponent rather than the candidate...and this routinely happens when a candidate does not have the background or accomplishments to beat his opponent in a straight up, honest campaign. I have nothing negative to say about the other candidates in this race. However, this district needs someone with Jay's hands-on knowledge who has actually commenced, developed and run successful businesses, has confronted first hand the difficulties involved in creating and sustaining jobs, and has overcome them to become one of the primary employers within this parish. I strongly encourage you to vote for Jay Morris. Charlie Heck Jr. Monroe
