LABI crawfishes, lawmakers question tax swap

Gov. Bobby Jindal's tax reform proposal will draw intense scrutiny from the state's most prestigious business lobby.

Representatives of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry spoke Tuesday at a luncheon sponsored by the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce and the Monroe Chamber of Commerce.

Jindal is expected to reveal details of his plan to eliminate personal and corporate income taxes to a joint meeting of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee today, March 14. Jindal says revenues lost from abolishing income taxes could be replaced by increasing the state sales tax or by lowering the sales tax rate and applying it to sales of more goods and services.
