Monroe superintendent list narrowed to five

After some heated debate Tuesday night, the Monroe City School Board accepted a citizens search committee's list of the top five candidates for superintendent of the school system.

The five finalists were ranked out of the original 19 applicants.

Tammye Turpin was ranked as the number one candidate for the job; Mary Nash Robinson was ranked second best for the job; Brent Vidrine was ranked third best for the job; Charles Michel was ranked fourth best for the job; Mary Guinn was ranked fifth best for the job.

Out of the top five finalists, Turpin and Vidrine are the only local applicants. Turpin serves as executive director and interim chief academic officer at Monroe City Schools. Vidrine is principal at Neville High School.
