Bridge project gets public hearing

The long-delayed fourth Ouachita River bridge project inched forward a bit this week.

The state Department of Transportation and Development held a public meeting Tuesday night to display three proposed routes for the bridge and its approaches. It is officially referred to as the LA 143-US 165 Connector.

Lynn Maloney-Mujica is associate project manager for Arcadis, a consulting firm that contracted with DOTD for the first phase of the project. Maloney-Mujica said all proposals are preliminary right now.

"They're still subject to change," she said. "We just did a screening analysis, based on minimizing impacts on wetland to other resources. Honestly, the corridors are still preliminary and just offered to the public for their comment."
