'Swamper' book sets literary learning in motion Environmental educator Amy Griffin Ouchley of Rocky Branch always wanted to write a children's book.
It took one of those dreaded birthdays that end in a "0" to get her started.
"My old high school friend said, 'Why don't we do something we've always wanted to do?,'" Ouchley said. "So I'd been writing these stories about a swamp rabbit since the 1980s and wanted to polish them up. That was in 2010."
The result, now available from the Louisiana State University Press, is called Swamper: Letters from a Louisiana Swamp Rabbit. Ouchley was named a Louisiana Wildlife Federation Conservation Educator of the Year as well as winner of the National Association of Interpreters Educator's Award. She frequently leads school tours at Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge. .....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
