OPSB approves 2013-2014 calendar

The Ouachita Parish School Board approved its calendar for the 2013-14 school year at its regular meeting last week.

Next year's spring break will fall earlier than usual because of the schedule for state-mandated testing.

Personnel Director Don Coker said teachers will report for work Aug. 12, while students return Aug. 14 and Aug. 15.

"They will be reporting for full days on the 16th," he said. "We have Labor Day holiday on Sept. 2, as we usually do."

Coker said October was unusual because it's a full month of school with no teacher in-service or professional development days.
