Former Monroe councilmen get new trial

Former Monroe city councilmen Arthur Gilmore and Robert "Red" Stevens will be retried in April in Shreveport on bribery and racketeering charges, U.S. District Court Judge Donald Walter ruled Tuesday.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley consented to Walter's decision.

The trial date was set for April 22.

Walter will preside over the trial in April. He took over the case from U.S. District Court Judge Robbie James, who presided over Gilmore's and Stevens' case until recently.
