LDCC launches police academy

Louisiana Delta Community College began its first police academy class in the new North Delta Regional Training Academy on Monday.

Last year, the North Delta Law Enforcement Planning District voted to have Delta assume operations of the academy, pending approval of the Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training, or POST, Council.

The district will serve as the advisory committee for the academy in order to assure programming and operations comply with needs of law enforcement agencies within the region.

"We are very proud to have our association with the North Delta Law Enforcement Planning District and the agencies they represent," said Dr. Barbara Henson, Chancellor at Louisiana Delta Community College.  "The academy is a true partnership of our organizations with the purposes of providing quality law enforcement training in the region.  We could not have been able to operate the academy without this partnership."
