It's crappie time for fishing

I had a wonderful time visiting Eddie Halbrook, our local fishing guide and cherished church member. We are always talking fish at church and this time I asked Eddie if he would help word the facts for a timetable for crappie fishing here in Northeast Louisiana.

Being the gracious person he is, he explained the patterning of crappie simply: pre-spawn, spawn, post-spawn and summer.

Pre-Spawn is February to March, with water temperatures at 52-60 degrees.
The holding pattern of fish, in waters 12-20 feet deep, depends on the lake or river. They hold there, and feed on shad and small insects, they hold at different depths on different temperatures. With warmer temperatures, you need to fish shallower and with cooler temperatures, you will fish deeper.
