WMPD begins search for chief

The West Monroe Police Department's next chief will not face any major or unfamiliar challenges, according to Mayor Dave Norris.

Norris said the police department is in good shape overall as the city prepares to commence a national search for chief to replace Christopher Elg, who resigned in early January.

Elg left West Monroe to become police chief in Tequesta, Fla. He began his new job Feb. 4.

Norris appointed Major Jerry Stansbury to serve as interim police chief until a permanent chief is named by the West Monroe Board of Aldermen.
