Local Salvation Army needs help after fire

Editor:

I believe that the community should help out the Salvation Army after their warehouse fire on Harrison Street in Monroe recently. The Salvation Army is a great organization in helping the needy. I have seen them helping out in major disasters. When I was in the Air Force In 1953 at Waco, Texas  a Tornado destroyed most of downtown area and killed around 60 people. I saw the great job that the Salvation Army did for the victims. I have been a strong supporter of the Salvation Army since then.
I recently attended a talk by Salvation Army Lt. Jerry Williams at the Military Officers Association of America meeting where he told about their mission. His talk was very impressive about all the things they do for the needy in 19 parishes in northeast Louisiana. Over 80 percent of their donations go directly to the needy. They have a very low administrative cost compared to other charity organizations.
Many people don't know that the Salvation Army is a religious organization dedicated to spreading the Word of God. They have religious services on a regular bases.
Let's all help out the Salvation Army when it is in need.
