Bryant named chief operating officer City of Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo announced the appointment of Monroe Fire Chief Jimmie Bryant to Chief Operating Officer in a statement on Tuesday. Bryant will retire from 32 years of fire service and commence his duties as COO effective March 1.
The COO works under the direction of and reports directly to the mayor, overseeing the city's planning and response to natural and man-made disasters and emergencies.
"I want to thank former Mayor Abe Pierce for hiring me as fire chief," Bryant said. "I want to thank Mayor Mayo for continuously supporting our vision and efforts to make the Monroe Fire Department one of the best in the country."
