Council entertains term limits

The Monroe City Council voted 5-0 Tuesday night with little discussion to introduce a resolution to allow city voters an opportunity to vote on limiting the terms council members and the mayor can serve.

The resolution was offered by Councilwoman Betty Blakes. She wants to limit the five council members and the mayor to three, four-year terms.

Mayor Jamie Mayo said he's against term limits.

"If the people get tired of me then they'll vote me out," Mayo said.
