Honor society hosts essay contest

The University of Louisiana at Monroe's Beta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta—the International English Honor Society—is sponsoring a high school writing competition for high school students throughout Ouachita Parish. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, Feb. 21.
The contest is open to all high school students within the parish, including students in Ouachita Parish Schools, Monroe City Schools, and those attending private schools.

The goal of the competition is to help students develop their writing skills and cultivate a high regard for the English language.

To enter, students must submit an essay, poem, or short story in response to one of three selections from "Ex Libris: Confessions of a Common Reader," a collection of essays by Anne Fadiman.

Student members ULM's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta will judge submissions and award first, second, and third place monetary prizes.
