Sterlington considers reserve police officer program The Sterlington Board of Aldermen is considering whether to reactivate the town's reserve police force.
At their regular meeting on Jan. 22, aldermen delayed acting on Police Chief Barry Bonner's request to recruit reserve officers. They will entertain the matter at a meeting in February.
Bonner said that four or five years ago, the police department operated a reserve program, but he described it as inactive.
"We had several people that had the badge and the credentials, but they never would show up to ride. And that costs the town money," he said. "We have to spend $1,000 a year just for the liability insurance on these guys.
