ULM grapples with mid-year cuts

The University of Louisiana-Monroe will trim more than $760,000 in expenses for the current operating year to meet state-mandated mid-year budget cuts.

University President Nick Bruno made that announcement Monday in an email distributed to ULM faculty and staff.

The cuts are part of a larger spending reduction in the University of Louisiana System, which was dealt a $7.1 million cut as part of mid-year budget cuts doled out by state budget officials.

Bruno noted that the cuts were distributed on a pro-rata basis in the UL-System, meaning schools that receive more state funding received a larger portion of a cut.
Bruno called the move disappointing.
