Shelter campaign encourages adoption of older cats

The River Cities Humane Society for Cats campaign, "Homes for the Holidays" started earlier this month and runs through Dec. 31.

This campaign strive to bring awareness about the need for homes for older and less adoptable cats.

During this campaign, adoption fees for adult and less adoptable cats at the River Cities Shelter will be reduced to $40. Never give a pet as a surprise gift; always ask the recipient first.

Shelter officials say there are several common misconceptions about adult cats.
Myth 1: Adult cats can't adapt to a new environment. False. Adult cats can be very adaptable and can bond with their new owner and settle right into their new home as if they have always been there.
