OPPJ considers mandatory garbage service

The Ouachita Parish Police Jury could begin requiring residents throughout the parish to pay for garbage service.

The move is another attempt by Police Juror Pat Moore to combat problems caused by a growing amount of litter and debris in the area.

"It's creating a really major problem with our drainage system," said Moore. "We're finding lots of trash and debris in the ditches and canals and it's having an impact on drainage and flooding."
