Former sheriff sentenced to home confinement by Michael DeVault - posted Thursday, November 15th, 2012 @ 12:00 pm  E-mail Story |  Print Story  Former Ouachita Parish Sheriff Royce Toney will spend six months under house arrest in connection with the unauthorized access of an email account belonging to a former employee. U.S. District Court Judge Robbie James sentenced Toney Tuesday in Monroe. In August, Toney struck a deal with federal prosecutors that resulted in him pleading guilty to nine misdemeanor counts of computer fraud and identity theft. In exchange, the government dropped numerous felony charges that exposed Toney to significant jail time. Speaking at his sentencing, Toney offered apologies for his actions. "The first one is to my wife, for putting her through this nightmare," Toney said. Toney also offered apologies to friends and supporters for "letting them down" and said he was grateful for the encouraging text messages and phone calls he received in recent months. .....
