Sterlington officials hone grant-writing skills

Two members of the Town of Sterlington Board of Aldermen recently took part in an advanced grant-writing workshop sponsored by the Louisiana Municipal Association.

Bonnie Dilmore and Lucy Holtzclaw plan to use their newly acquired skills to help draw funding for projects that benefit the town.

Dilmore and Holtzclaw both said that in the past, Mayor Vern Breland was the primary official involved in seeking grants. According to Dilmore, it seemed only fair that they should pitch in to help.

"The mayor has always done this," Dilmore said. "And what we were looking at was 'Is there a way that we can take some of this off him?'"
