Charter group responds to critique

A group hoping to convert Neville High School into a charter school has responded to a host of objections aired last week during the Monroe City School Board meeting.

Last week, School Board president Verbon Muhammed distributed an executive summary of a meeting he and other School Board representatives attended with the U.S. Department of Justice to discuss the Neville Charter School proposal.

At issue in the Justice Department meeting was a lack of information from the Neville Alumni and Friends Association, or NAFA, the group that hopes to begin offering classes at Neville Charter in the fall of 2013. Muhammed said Justice Department officials also had questions about how the move would affect racial make-ups and test scores throughout Monroe City Schools.
